Very nice article. This is my second year of freelance and it's very difficult once I'm in my "creative zone" to leave and take a break. But taking a walk, even a brief one, always makes me feel tons better!

Inspiration is the key to progression. Boring exercises alone further no one. I look to nature, to television, to art, animation, story telling, books, and dialoging with other people.

Love that fact how you mentioned God as the ultimate artist. Very true and very ignored fact .. Inspiration is by letting yourself soaked in the environment and really letting go of distractions inside. Everyone needs fresh air.. also so did God. Its nice to also go for a stroll in the garden if you have one.. (not if your living in a urban city in India though).

cheers,

Spot on Scott, and actually it's a very good technique to use. May even suggest it in a future article :) By the way, do you think you'd be interested in writing one or two guest posts for us?

I suffer from all of the distractions you mentioned, especially loved ones. I always tell myself that I will work from a coffee shop for the day, just to get away, but never do.

I have found that working in two hours blocks helps me a lot. I lay out what I am going to work on in my Google calendar with alarms set ten minutes before I am supposed to stop. When the alarm goes off, I take a walk, sit outside, or just reflect for a few minutes before getting back to work. It's amazing how many problems I can solve while I am not working, but rather just reflecting.

Inspiration: How to Get It and Not Lose It...

Every now and again our inspiration is killed by something and we stop taking pride in our work and create something which does not reflect our true skill. Here\’s how to get out of that mood, and become inspired again!

A very inspiring post. Personally I look at to art for inspiration, but I think that may be because I am a fan of art and this method might not work for all people.
