I would agree with all the points raised, but specifically number one. I might even go as far as to call it passion. In freelance work in particular, a person has to be almost obsessed with the craft. It is way too easy to get lazy and complacent.

I hadn’t thought about putting 10% away and investing that in a project. An awesome idea, and one I will be using for sure. Maybe a Rails app.

Good post! The tips that you’ve listed in your blogpost would really guide all aspiring and even veteran freelancers. You’re actually right in your marketing strategy as one must know how to keep a track of the pulse of the target audience.
